Safeguarding Our Children

The most important job we have in school is to keep our pupils safe.  All staff receive regular safeguarding training and we have robust systems to ensure that any risks or concerns are reported and dealt with quickly.

Our Safeguarding Leads

In school, we have a designated safeguarding lead and a deputy designated safeguarding lead. They are Mr Horton (DSL) and Mrs Brocklesby (deputy DSL).  Our lead safeguarding governor is Michelle Reid.  If you ever have any safeguarding concerns, you can always speak to any member of staff.  If you have any concerns about the safety or well-being of any member of our school community, these should be shared with the head teacher - headteacher@scarcliffe.org.uk or safeguarding@scarcliffe.org.uk

Safeguarding our children

We think that it's important for children to know how to keep themselves safe.  The children in Class 4 have designed a leaflet to show children how to stay safe and give them information about what to do if they feel at risk of harm.  Click below to download a copy of the child-friendly leaflet.

Online Safety

One of the biggest challenges we face nowadays is keeping children safe online.  We work hard to make sure children have the skills and knowledge needed. One way we do this is through our weekly Project Evolve assembly.  Project Evolve is used to teach  our children how to stay safe and behave responsibly online. It helps teachers plan lessons about digital life and online safety in a structured, age‑appropriate way. The progressive lessons cover a variety of themes including:

  • Self‑image and identity
  • Online relationships
  • Online bullying
  • Health, wellbeing and lifestyle
  • Privacy and security
  • Copyright and ownership
  • Managing online information
  • (and related aspects such as online reputation)

Below are a number of links that you can use to help keep your children safe when they are on the Internet.

If you are concerned about your child's safety online, it might need to be reported to the police.  You can do this by reporting concerns to CEOP.  Click on the link below for more information and to make a report.  The link at the foot of this page also allows you to report a concern.

Our pupils play a huge role in keeping each other safe online.  We have iVengers - who are part of the School Council.  It is their job to keep children and parents aware of some of the risks online.  Click here to visit the iVengers webpage.

Safeguarding during periods of school closure / holidays

Our number one priority is always to safeguard our pupils.  If you have any concerns in relation to the safety or well-being of children during periods of remote learning (or during school holidays), these should be shared immediately with the head teacher (headteacher@scarcliffe.org.uk) or with the safeguarding team (safeguarding@scarcliffe.org.uk).  If the concerns are regarding the head teacher, they should be shared with the chair of governors (Chris Mellard-Sibley.  You can find his contact details on the governor page.)

If a child is at immediate risk of harm, then you should call Starting Point on 01629 533190. Starting Point is Derbyshire's contact and referral service for children's services.
